If your baby needs specialist follow up care when they are discharged from SCBU, this will be provided by either Carol, who covers Selby and surrounding areas or Bernie, who covers York and north of the city. They are both experienced Neonatal Nurses that work in the Community but are based out of SCBU and provide a close link with hospital and home.
"Their philosophy is to ensure the babies, parents and families are given the most appropriate care and support, and that it is delivered effectively and efficiently."
SWIMMING
The swimming group is aimed at any baby born at 32wks gestation or earlier and if other problems have been identified at delivery or subsequently. The babies are usually at least 3 months corrected age, as they enjoy the sessions at this age. The babies also need to have been immunised. The sessions are for 6 wks and carried out in the hospital hydrotherapy pool in the physio department and Vicky Mulvana, paediatric physio will be in the pool with mum and babe to offer support and guidance. Carol and Bernie also attend to help with the sessions. Dad's, grannie's or other carer's are more than welcome to take part and take photos if so desired.
We hope the group will provide some ideas of how to support your baby and provide safe movements in the water. It will give Vicky, Carol and Bernie the opportunity to see how your baby is developing and offer some ideas on how to encourage this with positions for play.
FRIDAY GET TOGETHERS
These are on the first Friday of every month from 1 – 2.30pm in the Children's Centre. It involves a coffee/tea and a chat for ex SCBU mums and babies, with other family members welcome. There are also plenty of toys for older siblings too. Carol and Bernie are available for advice but it mainly involves mums having a chat and catch up about their babies and swapping stories and tips about progress so far.
